How popular is Jesus?

In 2018 the somewhat popular name Jesus, ranked the 148th Most Popular Boys Name in the United States.

Presently one of the top 250 most popular, Jesus has been less popular than the top 1000 in the past.

Its highest popularity RANKING of #66 was reached for the first time in 2001 and as recently as 2002.

But, the greatest number of babies were given the name in 2004 with 6,467 occurrences.

The least amount of newborns dubbed Jesus in any given year was 5 in 1891.

Jesus, decisively moved upwards in popularity around the years 1884-1888, 1891-1896, 1897-1900, 1909-1920, 1940-1948, 1965-1974, 1976-1980, 1986-1991, and 1998-2001, whereas clearly downward trends happened around 2009-2017.

For a number of years, the name Jesus has been moving downward in popularity. In recent years, continuing the trend, the number of babies given the name Jesus has dropped.

The more babies that are given a particular name, the higher the popularity ranking. If multiple names have the same usage, the tie is broken by assigning popularity rank in alphabetical order. Therefore in the case of names with fewer occurrences, names with the same number of occurrences may have vastly different rankings because they will be interranked alphabetically.

To safeguard privacy, the SSA does not include names with less than 5 occurrences.
